Turning People-Power into Pedal-Power: GIANT Food Stores + Yasso Help Deliver 250 Bikes to Local Kids

There’s something uniquely rewarding about building a bicycle with your own hands—especially when you know it will soon be ridden by a child in your community.

Last week in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, employees from GIANT Food Stores came together for a hands-on volunteer experience with a lasting impact. As part of Can’d Aid and Yasso’s nationwide commitment to donate 1,000 bikes to children this year, team members assembled 250 bicycles for local youth.

More Than a Volunteer Event

Corporate volunteerism is at its best when employees can see the direct impact of their efforts. Throughout the day, participants worked side by side, transforming boxes of parts into fully assembled bicycles destined for local children.

These moments remind us that volunteering is not only about giving back to the community; it’s also about strengthening workplace culture and fostering a sense of purpose among employees.

As Darice Fitzpatrick, Executive Assistant at The Giant Company, reflected:

“Everyone here at The Giant Company had a great time and couldn’t stop talking about it. It was one of our BEST volunteer events we have ever had. Everyone enjoyed their time—they were laughing and smiling the entire time.”

The bikes will benefit children served by Hope Station, PA STEAM Academy, and the YMCA, providing more than just transportation. For many young riders, a bicycle represents independence, confidence, outdoor adventure, and the simple joy of exploring their neighborhood with friends.

Partners since 2023, Can’d Aid and Yasso are proving that when communities come together, people-power can become pedal-power—creating stronger teams, stronger neighborhoods, and brighter futures for kids.
