For over 11 years, Can’d Aid has partnered with the Ball Foundation to implement the Crush it Crusade, a multi-faceted sustainability program that launches and strengthens recycling programs across the country. Crush it Crusade grants empower organizations with equipment, financial resources and highly customized training to sustain long-term recycling solutions – all while educating consumers on the benefits of infinitely recyclable aluminum.
Today is America Recycles Day, and we’re celebrating by highlighting one grantee that’s approaching sustainability a little differently:
Each year, Hope in the Hills hosts Healing Appalachia, a 3-day music festival in Huntington, WV dedicated to supporting recovery and healing in a region that has been hit particularly hard by the opioid addiction crisis. In June 2024, Can’d Aid awarded Healing Appalachia a grant that included the launch and execution of a skills development program for people in recovery. Program participants received specialized training about Zero Waste practices, a GBCI True Advisor Certificationand other marketable career skills. This grant will have a long-lasting impact on recovery communities across the Appalachian region, proving that the impact of a Crush it Crusade grant goes far beyond improved waste diversion.
