Arthur Hancock Brings New Instruments—and Inspiration—to Kentucky Students

Music has the power to inspire confidence, spark creativity, and connect communities. Recently, that power was on full display at Estill County Middle School in Irvine, Kentucky thanks to longtime Tunes Ambassador Arthur Hancock.

For over a decade, the nationally recognized, award-winning bluegrass singer, songwriter, and producer has used his platform and fanbase to support music education through Can’d Aid. Together, Arthur has helped raise more than $250,000 to provide instruments and resources to students and teachers in under-resourced schools across the country.

That impact recently reached Estill County Middle School, where students gathered for a special music assembly and instrument donation that brought much-needed new instruments to the school’s band program.

For band director Mark Lamb, the donation represents an opportunity to grow the program and give students access to tools they otherwise wouldn’t have had.

“These instruments are instruments that we wouldn’t have been able to get otherwise. The fact that we’re getting what we have is really exciting to me,” Lamb said.

Students were just as thrilled.

“It’s been a very long time since we’ve had such nice instruments. It’s very generous of them to give us new stuff,” shared one eighth-grade tuba player.

Moments like these are exactly what Can’d Aid’s Instruments for Change program is all about—bringing new instruments, renewed excitement, and expanded opportunities to music classrooms that need them most.

Across the country, more than 3.5 million students still lack access to music education. But with the help of artists like Arthur Hancock and supporters who believe in the power of music, we can change that.

You can help put instruments into the hands of students who need them most.
