Celebrating World Bike Day: 100 New Bikes, Endless Summer Adventures
There’s no better way to celebrate World Bike Day than by putting more kids on bikes.
This year in Minneapolis, we brought together a passionate community of cycling enthusiasts, volunteers, and partners at Indeed Brewing to assemble 100 brand-new bikes for students at Webster Elementary. Thanks to the support of Yasso and Target, students received not only new bikes, but also helmets—giving them everything they need to ride safely into summer.
For many kids, a bike represents far more than a set of wheels. It’s independence. It’s adventure. It’s confidence. It’s the freedom to explore their neighborhood, visit friends, and experience the simple joy of being outside.
As summer begins, that two-wheel freedom becomes even more meaningful.
Research continues to show the powerful connection between outdoor activity and overall well-being. Time spent outside can support physical health, improve mental and emotional wellness, reduce stress, and help children build confidence and resilience. A bike opens the door to all of those benefits, encouraging active play and creating opportunities for connection with friends, family, and community.
But this day wasn’t just about the students—it was also about the incredible volunteers who made it possible.
Dozens of bike lovers rolled up their sleeves at Indeed Brewing, turning their shared passion for cycling into direct community impact. Together, they assembled bikes, tightened bolts, checked brakes, and prepared each ride for its new owner. There’s something special about seeing a volunteer’s enthusiasm transform into a tangible gift that will bring joy to a child for years to come.
Events like this highlight the power of community: people coming together around a common passion and using it to make a difference.
When the bikes were delivered to Webster Elementary, the excitement was immediate. Smiles stretched ear to ear as students picked out their new helmets and got fitted to their bikes. For many, it marked the beginning of a summer filled with adventure, exploration, and newfound independence.
